Punta Gorda Town Councilor reportedly detained pending charges relating to domestic abuse allegations

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Punta Gorda Town Councilor has reportedly been detained by police following allegations of domestic abuse.

The victim allegedly reported to police that the councilor punched her several times in the face, splitting her ear.

Reports are that her injuries have been classified as harm by a medical officer.

The councilor is a member of the People’s United Party, which has since called for his immediate removal, as the party takes a “zero-tolerance” stance to gender-based violence.
