San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council and Belize American Chamber of Commerce discuss greater collaboration

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On March 8, 2023, U.S. Ambassador to Belize, Michelle Kwan and a delegation from Pasco County in Florida visited the Twin Towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

The delegation is being led by Michael D. Young, President of the Belize American Chamber of Commerce.

The courtesy visit is in conjunction with the invitation and organization of Mayor Earl Trapp Jr. and Councilor Matthew Preston who recently traveled to Pasco County, Florida.

“The visit was to begin building a relationship around the common interest of our two regions in economic development and technical education that will be beneficial for both of us and to develop sister-city relations between Pasco County and our Twin Towns,” the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council said.

Discussions included encouraging more overnight tourism which will have a great economic impact on the Tourism Sector.

Mayor Trapp thanked the delegation for being a part of this pilot Twin Town Tour and congratulated all women, especially those in leadership positions as they celebrated International Women’s Day.
