BREAKING: Leader of the Opposition is escorted out of National Assembly after remark to Speaker

By Aaron Humes: At the order of Speaker of the House of Representatives Valerie Woods, Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow was made to leave the precincts of the National Assembly during a debate.

After making his contribution to the debate on the Legal Aid Bill and as Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa was responding there was an exchange in which Barrow allegedly suggested the Speaker was “acting like a PUP.” There had been multiple incidents of cross-talk during debates on prior bills which force the Speaker to intervene and chastise both sides.

When Speaker Woods demanded he retract the remark, Barrow suggested she could not have heard him say that, then apparently doubled down, forcing her to invoke her power to have him removed.

Barrow continued his tirade before leaving, being heard to say the other side were “degenerates” in their behavior and prompting the Speaker to demand someone “name” him – Parliamentary parlance for formal censure. He left just before 4 p.m. before it could be done and the debate on the Legal Aid Bill continued.
