“Don’t tax my feminity” campaign a success; taxes removed from women’s sanitary products

Posted: Friday, March 10, 2023. 2:34 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The “Don’t Tax My Femininity” Campaign was launched through the collaboration of the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Minister Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, Rossana Briceño and Seidy Quetzal who sought the support of women in parliament for the legislation.

It’s a significant achievement, especially since the announcement came during the celebration of Women’s month.

The Government of Belize has eliminated the General Sales Tax (GST) from women’s sanitary products.

This will come into effect on April 1, 2023.

In addition to the removal of GST, the Government also eliminated 20% import duty on these products and 3% environmental tax.

Belize is now the second country in the region to eliminate taxes from women’s sanitary products.
