By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man who claims he is being medicated for a mental disorder is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after stealing a woman’s vehicle.

Fifty-nine-year-old Byron Broaster, who said he is Guatemalan/Belizean, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, charged with a single count of theft.

Allegations are that on March 7, he stole a $13,000 pickup truck. In court, no plea was taken and the prosecutor asked that the Magistrate consider that Broaster does not seem to be in his right mind.

Broaster, who appeared barefooted to his arraignment, was remanded until April 12, pending a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he is mentally capable of standing trial.
