By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: For the 9th consecutive year, sargassum seaweed continues to pile up on the beaches of Belize.
The San Pedro Town Council says that the sargassum situation requires a community effort to keep the beaches clean.
“We thank Alaia Belize and Ramon’s Village Resort for the huge contribution they have made to the sargassum response.
Sargassum keeps coming in every day. But, the emergency response continues throughout the island (non-stop),” the Town Council said.
The San Pedro Town Council urges businesses and residents to join efforts in their area.
As an emergency response to the heavy influx of sargassum the San Pedro Town Council is hiring temporary employees to assist in tackling sargassum pile up.
The sargassum seaweed phenomenon began affecting the region back in 2011.
