Stann Creek, Cayo walk away with 2 MVPS each at National Primary Schools Athletics Championships

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Not only did the Stann Creek District win the National Sports Council’s Primary Schools Athletics Championships held at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City on Friday, but they also got honoured with two of their athletes recognized as MVPs.

Second-place Cayo also walked away with two MVPs.

Shamaya Cacho of St Alphonsus of the Stann Creek District was voted MVP in the Girls Junior C Category. That’s children 12-14 years old. Cacho won the 100m and the 4x100m Relay. Cacho also won silver in the long jump.

Amazing Grace Lewis of the Gulisi Institute of the Stann Creek District was MVP in the Girls Infant A Category (9-11 years of age). Lewis won both the 400m and the 4x50m Mixed Relay.

Antwone Revers of Garden City School in the Cayo District won the shot put. He was named MVP of the Boys Junior C Category.

Jan Sosa of Cayo’s QSI topped the Baseball Throw and the 60m. He won the MVP trophy for the Boys Infant A Category.

The Stann Creek District won the National Primary Schools championships with 9 gold medals, 4 silver, and 2 bronze for a grand total of 15.

The Cayo District finished second with 5 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze.

The Belize District took third with 4 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze for a total of 16. The Toledo District was fourth with 2 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze. The Orange Walk District finished fifth winning 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. Corozal was next with 1 silver and 4 bronze.
