International News: US Authorities investigate disappearance of three women in Mexico

Posted: Saturday, March 11, 2023. 3:10 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three women from Texas, two sisters, and a friend have gone missing in Mexico after crossing the border to sell clothes at a flea market. According to Yahoo News, Maritza Trinidad Perez Rios, 47, Marina Perez Rios, 48, and their friend, Dora Alicia Cervantes Saenz, 53, haven’t been heard from in about two weeks. The women crossed into Mexico on February 24th and were traveling in a green mid-1990s Chevy Silverado to a flea market in Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon state.

The husband of one of the women spoke to her by phone while she was traveling in Mexico but became worried when he couldn’t reach her afterward. The families of the women have been in touch with Mexican authorities who are investigating the disappearance. The FBI is also aware of the situation.

This case has garnered relatively little publicity compared to the recent abduction of four Americans in Mexico which was caught on video and received an avalanche of attention. The fate of the three missing women remains a mystery, and officials in the US and Mexico haven’t said much about their pursuit.

Mexican authorities have been investigating the women’s disappearance since Monday, but the lack of manpower, equipment, and training hinders their ability to find missing persons. The situation is so bad that authorities can’t even identify tens of thousands of bodies that have been found. For most of the 112,000 Mexicans missing nationwide, the only ones looking for them are their desperate relatives.
