Byron Pope wins the 42nd Annual Westrac Pure Guard Belmopan Cycling Classic

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Byron Pope of Westrac Alliance captured the top spot in the 42nd Annual Westrac Pure Guard Belmopan Cycling Classic on Sunday.

The race traveled from Belmopan to Belize City and back. Pope’s Westrac teammate Eric Trapp claimed second place. Giovanni Choto of Imani Cycling Team finished in third position. Devin Azueta of M&M Engineering took fourth place. Jocelyn Chavarria Jr of FAL Cycling Team was fifth. Westrac Alliance’s Shane Jones rode in sixth. Teammates Wasani Castro and Anzil Tzib were seventh and eighth. G-Flow’s Renan Codd finished ninth and FAL’s Brandon Morgan rounded off the top ten.

In the women’s category, Paulita Chavarria of Team GONE was the winner. Her sister Patricia Chavarria was second. Arielle Gordon of the Dangriga Cycling Club was third.

Giovanni Choto of Imani’s Cycling Team topped the Masters Category. He was followed by Westrac Alliance’s Angel Tzib in second place and Robert Liam Stewart.

Windel Vernon topped the Masters Categories 4/5. Vallan Symns of Kulture-SPD was second and Preston Martinez of Team Joggers was third.

Ivan Usher of Rolling Shattaz-BZ Boys took the Junior Category. Jaylen Briceño of G Flow rode in second and Delton Rojas of Rolling Shattaz-BZ Boys was third. Evrit Matute Jr of Rolling Shattaz was fourth. Benito Gutierrez of G-Flow was fifth.

The winner of the Youth Category was Devin Major of G-Flow.

The next race before the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic is the 5th Annual Jawmeighan Mount Hope Classic on Sunday, March 19. That race goes from Leslie’s Imports in Belize City to Mount Hope in Georgeville, Cayo, and back.
