By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police say a man knocked down a motorcyclist last night after falling asleep while driving on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway.
Cable technician, 34-year-old Zane Zelaya was reportedly driving through Big Falls Village, Toledo District, around 9:50 p.m. when he fell asleep and swerved off the road around Mile 77.
Zelaya was awakened by the jolt of the vehicle running off the road and swerved back onto the road but lost control and crashed. While swerving back onto the road, he knocked 41-year-old Carmelo Chun off his motorcycle, completely tearing off the front of the motorcycle and causing Chun severe head and body injuries.
Chun was transported to the Punta Gorda Hospital by a passerby in a pickup truck, while Zelya was served with a notice of intended prosecution.
