By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Pedro Pirates were merciless piling it up on Wagiya with a 4-0 blast at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Sunday to regain the top spot in the Premier League of Belize (PLB) Closing Championship, albeit it on goal difference over Port Layola and Verdes.

This has become one of the most competitive championships in recent years. Champs have lost some steal while Progresso is gaining ground, but five weekends remain and things can still change a lot.

Luis Valdez in the 27’, Moises Hernandez in the 46’, Mario Chimal in the 65’, and Trevor Lennon in the 84’ gave the Pirates the more than convincing win.

For Wagiya, the season has turned out much different that expected. With a miserly three points in hand, they find themselves nine points shy of sixth place and just one point above last-place.
