Complainant drops burglary charge after finding out culprits are friends of her common-law-husband

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two men were spared the possibility of a seven-year minimum prison sentence for breaking into a woman’s house after the complainant dropped the charges.

On Tuesday, 39-year-old Dane Leon Enriquez and 34-year Thomas Albert Young appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court where they were jointly charged with a single count of burglary.

The duo was accused of stealing the virtual complainant’s security camera and two sets of house keys on Saturday, March 11.

In court, the complainant told the Magistrate that she did not wish to pursue the matter any further, as the culprits were friends of her common-law-husband and she believed that they meant no harm.

The complainant also assured the magistrate that she was not being forced, bribed, or otherwise coerced into dropping the charges, and with that, the men were free to go.
