Court orders SOS Security owner and manager to pay outstanding fines in installments or face prison time

Posted: Wednesday, March 15, 2023. 1:08 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The owner and manager of Security Oriented Services (SOS) were back in court this week, but not over the civil claim where 12 former employees are suing for unpaid wages.

Paul Garcia and Crispin Spain appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, along with their attorney Orson Elrington, regarding payment of an old judgment against them to a total of $8,179.30.

Elrington pleaded on his clients’ behalf to give them time to file for bankruptcy. The court ordered that SOS pay $500 a month until the entire amount has been covered or Garcia and Spain will face committal, which means they will go to jail for six weeks and upon their release, they will be given a set amount of time to come up with the money to pay the fine.

If they fail to do so within the time given by the court, they will end up back in jail.
