Posted: Wednesday, March 15, 2023. 9:48 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former police officer 33-year-old Ryan Sutherland was cleared of two criminal charges in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today when the complainant did not show up to testify against him.

Sutherland, a resident of Lemonall village, appeared unrepresented today, charged with one count of wounding and one count of dangerous harm, in relation to an incident that occurred on February 19, 2022.

The complainant, Wilhelm Bull, whom Sutherland says is his cousin, accused Sutherland of chopping him to the head with a machete.

Sutherland, who said he resigned from the police department, says that in light of the case being dismissed, he will be filing a lawsuit against Bull for filing a false complaint.
