Uncle fined over $500 for assaulting his niece, who is a minor

By Breaking Belize Staff: A Belize City man was fined in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week for hitting his niece during an altercation.

Arthur Welch was arraigned on Tuesday, charged with a single count of common assault.

Welch pleaded guilty to the offense and was fined $500 plus $5 cost of court which he must pay by June 12 or he will spend five months in prison.

Welch reportedly got into the altercation on Monday, March 13, after he reportedly began to utter insulting words about the young girl’s mother.

She responded and as the confrontation escalated he motioned to slap her in the face, but reportedly decided against it and hit her on the hand instead.
