Roscoe Anderson Rhys: Only Belizean basketball coach in Belize accredited by USA Basketball

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Roscoe Anderson Rhys is the only Belize based basketball coach who is accredited by USA Basketball. Rhys currently holds a USA Basketball Gold Coach License.

As an accredited USA Basketball coach, Rhys has aces to a variety of USA Basketball online resources and is listed in the USA Basketball national database of licensed coaches where players, parents, and organizations seeking coaches can locate him.

“As a licensed coach through USA Basketball, you have committed to providing a safe , fun and proper development experience fro your players, USA Basketball told Rhys when he received his license renewal in 2021.

“You have joined a unifid basketball community of qualified and dedicated coaches ans administrators, all supporting players and programs that insoire youn g people to reach their potential through basketball.”

Rhys, who is one of the coaches of the Belize Elite Basketball League’s Orange Walk Running Rebels, also coaches high school basektball at Belize High School and primary basketball at Belize Elementary School in Belize City.

“I have been licensed since 2017 every year,” Rhys told Breaking Belize News (BBN).

“I have to renew and take coaches refresher course. This license allows me to take junior teams to play in tournaments in the USA. It opens up opportunities for me to attend coaching clinics through USA Basketball and meet coaches from the NB, the NCAA, and top High School programs in the USA.”

Rhys said he has not taken a team to compete in the Summer programs in the United States since the pandemic.

“I am not sure if I will take a team this year but am planning something for the Summer,” he said.

Rhys is extremely active in Belize basketball as he is also a National Team Coach with Belize Basketball Federation and still finds time to run his Rhys Skills Academy.
Anderson Rhys is certainly worthy of being applauded.
