Young man charged with harm for slapping teen boy he claims insulted him and his girlfriend

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Nineteen-year-old Damion Dawson is out on bail following a charge of harm.

Dawson appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today charged with slapping a 14-year-old boy.

He immediately pleaded guilty to the offense, explaining to the court that at the time of the incident, he was walking with his girlfriend when the minor rode in front of them on a bicycle and started uttering insulting words. Dawson said that he momentarily took leave of his senses because he was angry, and apologized for his action.

The Magistrate explained to Dawson that his explanation amounts to a defense, so his guilty plea could not be accepted.

An equivocal plea of not guilty was entered on Dawson’s behalf, and he was granted bail in the sum of $600.

He is due back in court on May 17.
