By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize (PLB) match between the San Pedro Pirates and Belmopan’s Internacional, formerly the Bandits, has been called off since Internacional cannot field a team to fulfill their commitment.
“Due to unforeseen circunstances International FC will not be able to field a team to play their scheduled match against San Pedro Pirates FC which was scheduled for tonight at 7:00 pm,”
the PLB said in a press release sent out at 9:57 am on Saturday morning.
“This matter will be sent to the PLB Disciplinary Committee and the PLB Organizing Committee for immediate revision.”
At about 10:30 am, the San Pedro Pirates put out a release of their own and advised fans of the game’s cancellation.
“The Club will be sending an official complaint letter to the league as this practice should not be tolerated, specially now that the competition is so zealous,”
the San Pedro Pirates said.
The Club advised fans who has already brought tickets to hold them for the next San Pedro home game.
In mid-February, the PLB announced that the Belmopan Bandits
were undergoing a name change to Internacional FC and were now under Mexican sponsorship. The Bandits said that Mexican Club Internacional FC were taking over management of the club but had not acquired the club though that is their intention.
Since then, things have gone haywire with the Bandits, at least with results which have not improved with the club losing weekend after weekend.
