Court rules Kirk Pitts will serve over a year in jail for not paying fines

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belize City resident Kirk Pitts promised the court in February that he would start making payments towards a number of unpaid fines, but failed to do so, and when he failed to meet his scheduled dates, the court decided that he would go to prison.

Pitts appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

He could provide the court with no reason why he failed to show up for his court dates and has not paid anything towards an accumulated $2,010 in fines.

Senior Magistrate Baja Shoman told Pitts that he had been ordered to pay a minimum of $150, but to date has not even paid $1.
