By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize grudge match between Port Layola and Verdes was suspended after 45 minutes due to a torrential rain that flooded the pitch at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City.
The match had been billed as the hottest and most attractive in the PLB calendar, particularly after Port beat Verdes on January 29 in Cayo but subsequently lost the three points for fielding an ineligible player. Port claimed the PLB had allowed the player to be placed on the team roster and therefore said it was unfair for the club to be punished.
But after an intense first half, the heavy rains that came along with thunder, lightning, and strong winds, stopped the game short, denying fans of what would have surely been an explosively entertaining second half.
The PLB will now determine when the game is to be completed.
Since the San Pedro Pirates-Internacional match was called off since Internacional couldn’t field a team, and the PLB saying they will have to revise the situation, momentarily the standings at the top remain unmoved at 18 points for San Pedro Pirates, Verdes and Port. Progresso beat Benque 3-0 and moved up to 17 points while Altitude walked over Wagiya 5-0 and climbed to 15.
