Progresso whip Benque Viejo United 3-0 in Premier League of Belize

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso FC trounced Benque Viejo FC 3-0 at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town on Sunday in Week 10 of the Premier League of Belize’s (PLB) Closing Championship.

The match was expected to be more competitive with Benque challenging Progresso for the three points, but it turned out to be a one-sided affair and Progresso collecting the three points. They now total 17 and are keeping pace with the leaders, who momentarily, are stuck at 18 because of their inactivity (San Pedro) or suspended game (Port Layola and Verdes).

Naim Wilson hit the opener just 8 minutes into the game. Then, Leocadio ‘Peely’ converted the second from a penalty kick in the 30’. Briceño closed off the game in the 75’ with his second for the final 3-0.

Benque are stuck at 12 points still in the sixth position.

In other games, Altitude tore Wagiya apart 5-0 in the Southern Derby at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga iwhile the Port-Verdes match was suspended by a torrential rain at the half with the score 0-0 in Belize City. The San Pedro Pirates-Internacional match was called off on Saturday morning since Internacional couldn’t field a team to travel to San Pedro.
