By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), and the United Kingdom Caribbean Infrastructure Partnership Fund (UKCIF) conducted a mission in Belize from March 13 to 17, 2023.
The mission’s purpose was to supervise projects financed by the CDB and/or the UKCIF.
Those projects include the Coastal Road, Philip Goldson Highway and Remate Bypass Road Upgrading Projects, with works being done by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing); the Road Safety Project through the Ministry of Economic Development; the Sixth and Seventh Power Projects being implemented by the Belize Electricity Limited, and the Third Water Project executed by the Belize Water Services.
Representatives of the CDB and UKCIF met with agencies executing the projects to discuss implementation and related issues.
The delegation also visited the highway and electricity project sites, and met with representatives of the Ministry responsible for Energy, the Departments of Transport and the Environment, the Climate Finance Unit, the Belize Social Investment Fund and the Statistical institute of Belize regarding ongoing and possible future interventions.
The representatives expressed satisfaction with the findings of the mission and with the implementing partners and reiterated the commitment to continued collaboration in pursuit of Belize’s development objectives.
