International News: Cartel in Mexico ambush military troops in Guerrero

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday, 2 Mexican soldiers and 5 cartel gunmen were killed after a military unit was ambushed in the town El Pescado, in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, Fox reports.

The Mexican military noted that the unit was attacked by about 18 armed men aboard 2 vehicles.

Investigators believe that the unit was attacked by La Familia Michoacana, a once-powerful cartel that has been attempting to regain its influence after the arrest of its leaders.

The state of Guerrero has endured years of violence between rival cartels.

Since the Mexican government launched military operations against the cartels in 2006, over 350,000 people have been killed.
