By Breaking Belize News Staff: Thirty-four-year-old mechanic Al Francis is out on bail tonight after being charged with attacking a woman and damaging her phone during a dispute.
Francis appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court answering to one count of common assault and one count of damage to property.
He initially pleaded guilty to the charges but after the facts were read to him he disagreed and entered a plea of not guilty.
In court, he alleged that he had been giving the complainant money to save in her bank account for him, and on March 20 when he asked for some of the money she refused to give it to him. He explained that this caused the altercation for which he was being charged.
Bail was granted to him in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same, which he met.
Francis is due back in court on May 23.
The complainant told police that she was standing in her yard when Francis came and started an argument. She further alleged he grabbed her by the hand and started dragging her and when she pulled her $900 cell phone from her pocket to call her boss, he grabbed it from her and smashed it on the ground.
