By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) continues assisting schools with their school gardens and school feeding programs.
On Tuesday, MAFSE, through the Cayo District Agriculture Department and the Cooperatives Department reached out to the Bullet Tree Seventh Day Adventist School and the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic School in Bullet Tree Falls Village with their school gardens.
“Both schools received seeds and seedlings that included: cucumber, coriander (cilantro), radish, habanero pepper, jalapeño, cabbages and tomatoes,” MAFSE said in a social media post.
“The cultivated crops will be used in the school feeding program and will focus on the promotion of a healthy lifestyle for the children by giving them a better idea of the concept ‘From farm to table’”.
The Agriculture Ministry thanked the Santa Familia Grains, Vegetables and Legumes Co-operative for facilitating their rototiller to carry out land preparation for the school gardens. MAFSE also thanked Extension Officer Franklin Padron for assisting with the land preparation.
