By Breaking Belize News Staff: An entomologist living in Belize has caused a stir online after growing botfly larvae in his arm and filming the process, according to a report from IFLScience.

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, shared a video on social media documenting the growth of botfly larvae under his skin. He explained that he had purposefully allowed the larvae to develop inside his arm in order to study their life cycle and better understand their behavior.

The video, which has since gone viral, shows the man’s arm swelling and pulsing as the larvae grow and mature. The footage also shows him carefully removing the fully grown larvae from his arm using a pair of tweezers.

While the entomologist’s actions have sparked fascination and curiosity among some viewers, others have criticized his decision to allow botfly larvae to grow inside his body.

The entomologist has not commented on the controversy surrounding his video, but reports suggest that he continues to conduct research on botflies and other insects in Belize.

Botflies, which are common in Central and South America, lay their eggs on a host animal’s skin. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae burrow into the host’s flesh and develop inside until they reach maturity. While botfly larvae are not typically harmful to humans, their presence can cause discomfort and irritation.

The incident has raised concerns about the ethics of conducting research on live animals, and the potential risks associated with intentionally allowing insects to grow inside the human body.

It remains to be seen whether the entomologist will face any legal repercussions for his actions, but his controversial video has certainly captured the attention of the public and sparked a conversation about the ethics of scientific research.
