Port Layola-Verdes match to be replayed in its entirety in Belize City on date to be announced

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The suspended match between Port Layola and Verdes will be replayed in its entirety at a date to be announced, said the Premier League of Belize (PLB).

The match was suspended last Sunday after 45 minutes due to torrential rains when the teams were in their locker rooms planning the second half. The pitch at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City was flooded to the point that the match had to be suspended.

“An abandoned match is replayed unless the competition rules or organisers determine otherwise,” says Law 7 of the Laws of the Game of the International Football Association Board that govern football.

The PLB’s byelaws state that if 75 minutes have played, the result of an abandoned game stands. Anything less than that requires a complete replay.

The match will more than likely be played at the Marion Jones as a night game after the April 2 games since next week the Belize Men’s National Team has an international commitment on Tuesday in the Dominican Republic and will be travelling back home on Wednesday.

For now, both Port Layola and Verdes remain with 18 points, three less than the San Pedro Pirates who were awarded a 3-0 win over Internacional for their no-show last Saturday.
