By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize said late Thursday that only a few tickets are left for the Belize-Guatemala Concacaf game slated for 8:00 pm on Friday.
“Tickets are currently sold out at FFB guys,” the FFB said in a social media post at 6:00 pm on Thursday.
“There is a limited amount still available at the National Bank of Belize Ltd. We will also have a very limited amount available tomorrow at the FFB headquarters tomorrow morning at 10 am. Get them while you can….the biggest game of the year!!”
Reports on Wednesday said over 500 Guatemalans were coming to support their National Team, and while they will be quite boisterous, Belizeans have been showing heightened interest and are expected to flock to the FFB Field in bigger numbers.
Last year on June 5 in Guatemala City, the Guatemalan team won 2- 0 and though the BMNT have only gained one point from four games, there seems to be a renewed faith in the rejuvenated team coach David Pérez is putting together now. Additionally, more Belizean players are playing out of the country, albeit several players in United States universities. Pérez has recalled Michael Salazar (NPSL’s Miami United) and Krisean López (Platense, El Salvador) along with Eugene Martinez now playing in the Canadian League with Vancouver. He has also called Warren Moss and Jovaunn Ramos who are playing with universities and with USL2 team Rochester FC Minnesota.
Led by perennial captain Everal Trapp, the team also features returning players like Darrel Myvett, Jordy Polanco, Trimayne Harris, Horace Avila Jr, Charles Tillett, Donnel Arzu, Asrel Sutherland, Izon Gill, and Denmark Casey and new faces like Alence Ayala, Moises Hernandez, Kenroy Tillett, Michael Palacio, Kyle Flowers, Andir Chi, Earl Dyck, and Jordan Casanova.
Unfortunately, Nahjib Guerra will be missing because of injury.
The Guatemalans are presently in second place with seven points from four games behind French Guiana (11 points from five games) and are favourites to win but Belize should be able to give them a good run for their money this time around.
So, expect a rocking FFB Stadium on Thursday for just like the Belizean fans can be demanding so should they be supportive and not go silent any at all during the game. The BMNT, who we like to call the Belize Jaguars, need our support to be vocal non-stop: 90 minutes and more.
At present after Thursday’s 1-1 draw between French Guiana and the Dominican Republic, French Guiana lead Concacaf Nations League B’s Group D with 11 points and are followed by Guatemala with seven, the Dominican Republic with five, and Belize with one point from a draw and three losses.
The complete 23-man list follows:
