International News: Taiwan has recalled its Ambassador to Honduras

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Taiwan recalled its Ambassador to Honduras, the Associated French Press reports.

The Taiwanese government noted that the Ambassador was recalled after a visit by Honduras’ Foreign Minister to China.

“Honduras ignored more than 80 years of friendship between (Taiwan and Honduras) when they sent their foreign minister to China, which has seriously damaged the feelings of our government and people,” the Taiwan Foreign Ministry noted.

“We have decided to immediately recall our ambassador in Honduras to express our strong dissatisfaction,” it added.

That visit to China was reportedly to begin discussions on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Honduras and China.

Since the announcement by Honduras President, Xiomara Castro last week, several of Taiwan’s allies including Belize reiterated their support for Taiwan.
