Minister of National Defence and Border Security announces new program for BDF to pursue higher education

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, during the budget presentation, Minister of National Defence and Border Security, Florencio Marin announced that his Ministry and the Ministry of Education will sign a Memorandum of Understanding for a program where BDF officers will be able to pursue higher education at the University of Belize.

Minister Marin thanked the men and women in uniform for their professionalism, commitment, and support to defense in Belize.

Marin noted that his Ministry is working to transform and enhance the capacity of defense officers.

Marin shared several training that the BDF and Coast Guard have engaged in including Tradewinds.

Marin noted that the Western Border with Guatemala is a challenging zone due to illegal incursions, illegal cultivation and settlements.

With regards to mental health, Marin said that the Louisiana National Guard is providing mental health training to BDF and Coast Guard officers.

Marin thanked the U.S. and the U.S. Special Forces, BATSUB, the Louisiana National Guard and all the personnel from his Ministry including Minister of State, Oscar Mira for their support and hard-work to transform the ministry.
