By Aaron Humes: Downtown Belize City is no stranger to fires, but a blaze that broke out earlier this evening was successfully contained before it could become something bigger.
A minor fire was reported at the Augusto Quan Building on Albert Street, across from Mule Park in Market Square.
Information just in from Police is that smoke was observed in an office area on the second floor. According to the business’s owner who also lives there, he was working in the office and at around 7:30 decided to go take a bath. On his return ten minutes later he found paper next to his desktop computer was on fire. He was able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher but fire personnel had been summoned to the area.
Damage was limited to the contents of the desk which were not insured. The cause of the fire is to be determined pending a full investigation on Friday by fire personnel, while police have also put the matter under investigation.
