Traffic lights in Belmopan fixed days after four-vehicle pile up; Area Rep says better late than never

Posted: Thursday, March 23, 2023. 11:16 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: On Monday, three vehicles and a motorcycle crashed at the intersection of Constitution and Forest Drive, Belmopan City, where the was a non-functioning traffic light; today Belmopan Area Representative Oscar Mira, announced that the light has been repaired.

Mira took to social media this morning to inform drivers that the light is up and running once more, so they must approach the intersection with caution.

“I Know it took longer than necessary but better late than never. Thank you to the Belmopan City Council for giving us the opportunity to fix it,” Mira said.

He noted that the light was repaired through collaboration with RECONDEV, which bought the control panel, and PROEN Engineering which programmed the panel.

Belmopan residents say that the traffic light had been out for a number of years and that the intersection is a heavily trafficked area.
