French Guiana draw 1-1 with Dominican Republic, not good for Belize or Guatemala who meet today in Concacaf National League B

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: French Guiana and the Dominican Republic drew 1-1 on Thursday at the Dr Edward Lama Stadium in Cayenne in the 5^th fixture of the Concacaf National League B. Jean-David Legrand scored for French Guiana in the 85′ but the Dominican Republic tied the match in the 90’+4 on a goal by Carlos Heredia.

That result wasn’t good for Belize or Guatemala who clash tonight at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan in the other Group D match.

At present Guatemala are ranked second in Group D with seven points, four less than French Guiana, who yesterday drew 1-1 with the Dominican Republic. That means that Guatemala must now beat both Belize and French Guiana to win the group. Had the Dominican Republic won, four points could have been enough. The advantage Guatemala have is that they have never lost to Belize and that the game against French Guiana on Monday is at home in Guatemala City.

The reality for Belize is that whatever the score was it wouldn’t have been good but since we only have one point and a -5-goal difference, a big win by French Guiana would have been much better. As it stands, Belize can only avoid relegation to League C if we jump out of last place. That can only happen if the BMNT win both remaining games as that would put us at six over the Dominican Republic’s five. But first, we need to win tonight over Guatemala, a country we have never beaten in eight encounters since 2007. Our best results were two 0-0 draws in 2013. Should the BMNT lose tonight, the match against the Dominican Republic on Monday will only be for pride as we will already have been dropped to League C.
