By Aaron Humes: According to Police, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has instructed a criminal and internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Dyandre Chee, 29, that occurred on Saturday night about 11:00 pm on Boundary Road, Orange Walk Town.
Official information is that Police (QRT) Personnel onboard a white Ford Ranger pick-up were responding to shots being fired in the Boundary Road area between Orange Walk Town and San Jose Palmar village. On arrival at Riverside Street, three motorcycles, each one with a passenger, were seen fleeing from the area at high speed.
Police say they set chase as the motorcycles and their riders were seen travelling towards Banquitas House of Culture near the bridge exiting town toward San Estevan. At the same time while chasing Police heard several shots apparently coming from the motorcycle riders towards the Police. The chase proceeded on Otro Benque Street, where one of the cycles took a U-turn. At the same time, two other shots were heard and officers from the police pickup responded.
The driver of a black motorcycle, apparently Chee, was then seen falling off the cycle. He was approached and observed with a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His passenger namely Miguel Rivero complained of pain in his right leg and has received medical attention.
Police investigation continues.
