By Benjamin Flowers: Belize City resident Samuel Bailey is seeking assistance to raise funds in an effort to get life-saving treatment for a heart condition.
Bailey told Breaking Belize News (BBN) that he was diagnosed with an enlarged heart in late 2022 which has been getting progressively worse. Bailey said that he spoke with the heart specialist from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), who would arrange for him to see a doctor visiting from the United States.
An official letter from the KHMH states that he is “in need of advanced cardiac care (comprehensive) which is not available in Belize,” and that his condition prohibits him from working.
Bailey was told that open heart surgery is the only means of addressing his particular issue; however, the cost of such an operation can exceed US$100,000.
Bailey is preparing to hold a barbecue sale next month and is looking for support in putting the fundraiser together with either cash or in-kind donations.
He can be reached at 607-5553 and donations can be made at the Heritage Bank account 10210551 under the name Samuel Bailey.
