The moon and four planets will line up in the sky tonight

Posted: Monday, March 27, 2023. 4:33 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Star gazers will be treated to a rare sight this week, as the moon and five planets will be lining up in the night sky.

The BBC reports that Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Uranus, Mars, and the Moon will align in an arc across the evening sky tonight and Tuesday night. The majority of the planets will be visible to the naked eye from anywhere in the world; however, those looking for Mercury may need to use binoculars or other equipment.

Those wishing to see the event are urged to find somewhere with clear skies and an unobstructed view. Experts also say that the best time to view the event is early evening, as Mercury and Jupiter will not be visible for long.

“The planets aren’t aligned right now, they are all spread out across the Solar System but just from our perspective, every once in a while they get close enough to each other in the sky that we’re able to see quite a few at once,” explained Jake Foster from Royal Observatory Greenwich.

The National Meteorological Service of Belize says that the sun will set at 6:05 p.m. today.
