By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two Belize City men are spending their first night on remand after being charged with the daylight robbery of a Guatemalan scrap collector.

Twenty-two-year-old Kenyon Flores and 21-year-old Alston Smith were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today on a single count of robbery. They stand accused of robbing Victor Guerra of cash and personal belongings amounting to $2,930.

Smith was additionally read a single count of handling stolen goods after allegedly being found with Guerra’s cell phone the day after the robbery.

Both men were unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to the charges. As there was allegedly a firearm involved, bail could not be granted at the Magistrate level and they were remanded to prison until May 26.

The robbery reportedly occurred on March 23 on Cedar Street Belize city, while Guerra was scrapping some metal.
