By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize City Magistrate’s Court has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for 21-year-old Cassius Myers after his behavior at arraignment on Monday.
Myers was initially brought to court, jointly charged with four others, three males and a female, for charges of kept unlicensed firearm, kept unlicensed ammunition, and possession of controlled drugs. He appeared in court in the presence of his mother, who told the court that his behaviour has been strange recently and that oftentimes he begins speaking things that she cannot understand. His mother told the court she believes that Myers is having a mental breakdown.
The Magistrate, taking into consideration the concern, adjourned the matter until April 28 and ordered the evaluation. Myers was due in court later for arraignment in relation to a wounding charge, where he is accused of stabbing a 14-year-old male minor. Between his first arraignment and waiting for the second, Myers eluded police and escaped from the courthouse.
He was apprehended soon after and his wounding case was also adjourned until April 28 in light of the order by the first magistrate.
Myers has since been remanded to the Belize Central Prison where the evaluation will be conducted.
