Police menaced pregnant woman in Caye Caulker

By Aaron Humes: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has encouraged a pregnant young woman from Caye Caulker, Belize District to report to Police Professional Standards Branch (PSB) a complaint about another instance of police mistreatment over the weekend.

According to reports, the woman was filming a police officer apparently mistreating an individual when the officer allegedly turned on her and started to assault her. Police top brass have repeatedly said that it is a citizen’s right to film any police officer on active duty in the interest of justice, but individual officers have regularly tried to intimidate citizens into not filming them, or once filmed, to destroy the information.

The Commissioner confirmed that he has been sent the video personally and so all PSB staff need is a formal complaint which will be investigated.
