By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Toledo Agriculture Department on Tuesday hosted 15 women at the agriculture station in observation of Women’s Month, said the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise’s (MAFSE).
The visit was part of the Agriculture Ministry intention to continue celebrating women in agriculture this month for their contributions to the field.
Toledo District Agriculture Coordinator Denzel Castillo welcomed the women from Punta Gorda and surrounding communities and gave them tour of the Toledo Agriculture Station looking at the crops, livestock, and poultry units.
“The women participated in a session on vegetable production – nursery management and also visited the hatchery unit where they were given a brief presentation on the incubation process and general backyard poultry management,” MAFSE said.
“Miss Naomi Requena, champion woman farmer from Toledo, was also present to encourage the participants and gave them an insight on vermiculture production and an update on the Sembrando Vida Project.”
The Toledo Agriculture Department gave the women vegetable seeds and seedlings so they can start their own backyard gardens.
