By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) changed recommendations for COVID-19 vaccines, Reuters reports.

The WHO recommends that high-risk populations should receive an additional dose 12 months after their last booster.

High-risk and vulnerable populations include the elderly, and younger people with significant risk factors.

WHO recommends risk groups to get an additional shot of the vaccine 6 or 12 months after their latest dose.

Healthy children and youths were defined as “low priority”.

WHO further urged countries to consider factors like disease burden before recommending vaccination of this group.
