By Rubén Morales Iglesias: At its Annual General Assembly last Friday, the Belize Athletic Association (BAA) decided that it will soon set a date to elect a new treasurer.
The BAA said 34 members attended the hybrid General Assembly which gave the opportunity to members who were unable to be present in person both in country and abroad to do so virtually.
The meeting held at the National Olympic (NOC) Headquarters at the Marion Jones Complex was chaired by President Deon Sutherland.
President Sutherland gave his annual report on the state of the association, highlighting the challenges of running the association and the work that still needs to be done. The BAA’s financial statement was presented, and the BAA announced that it is conducting its 2022 internal audit. The BAA also announced Emil Pinelo as its external auditor.
After Treasurer Orville Melendez presented his resignation, the Assembly decided it had to set a date for the election of a new treasurer.
Additionally, Gregory Meyers was elected as Public Relations Officer.
Vice Presidents Jaheed Smith and Tricia Flores, General Secretary Harrison Pilgrim, and Assistant Secretary Tiffara Jones were present.
The Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association President Hilly Martinez was also present at the BAA General Assembly.
