Father pleads guilty to incest, will serve 12 years in jail

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to three counts of incest.

The trial had kicked off on March 20 but came to an abrupt end in the High court of Belize yesterday, when the accused changed his plea from not guilty to guilty for all charges.

The victim testified on camera (within the judge’s chambers) that she was 13 years old when the incidents occurred back in 2018. The incidents were said to have occurred in San Felipe, Orange Walk.

Justice Moore sentenced the convict to 12 years per sentence; however, since the sentences will run concurrently, he will only spend 12 years in prison instead of 36.

The attorney representing the father was Natasha Espat & Francine Burns of Legal Aid who were appointed to the case by the court.
