By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 15-year-old male has been remanded to the care of the state after no family member showed up so that the court could remand him to their custody.
The youth is one of several charged in connection with an incident on March 9, where a group of boys ambushed and beat up a 16-year-old student from St. John’s College. The 15-year-old was only read a charge of dangerous harm and informed that due to the nature of the offense, no plea could be taken from him.
There was no objection to bail being offered to him, but the Magistrate was concerned with the fact that his uncle could not be reached to be present for his arraignment. In light of the situation, bail was offered to him in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety but the minor could not post bail since minors cannot sign for their own bail.
The uncle was given until the end of the day to show up but didn’t so the youth was remanded to the New Beginnings Youth Development Facility. The 15-year-old minor, s 16-year-old minor, and 18-year-old Lennox Flowers have also been charged in connection with the incident.
