By Breaking Belize News: A mechanic that works on police vehicles has been charged for taking a police motorcycle without permission, which he later said got stolen.
Thirty-two-year-old Dorian Garnette appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court answering to a single charge of taking a conveyance without authority.
Garnette pleaded guilty and accepted the facts as read out in court and said while he admits to not having been given permission that night to take the cycle, he has always been using the cycle to run errands for the police.
The court took into consideration that Garnette is a first offender and fined him $500 plus a $5.00 cost of court which he has until June 30, 2023, to pay or he will spend two months in prison for defaulting.
According to police, ASP Rochelle Chan reported that on March 20, 2023, he officially took over Precinct 4 Police Station and when he made checks on all of the items he was handed over including a red Meilun motorcycle, the property of the Government of Belize and attached to the Staff of Traffic Section.
On Saturday, March 25, 2023, he visited the Belama Police Station located at the corner of Chetumal Boulevard and Albert Hoy Street where he learned that the motorcycle was missing, and he could not locate it when he made checks. Garnette was later seen on surveillance footage leaving with the motorcycle.
