Taiwan President Dr. Tsai Ing-wen to visit Sheep and Goat Project in Central Farm

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The President of Taiwan Dr. Tsai Ing-wen will be visiting the Sheep and Goat Project in Central Farm during her visit to Belize on Monday, April 3.

The Belize-Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) Sheep and Goat Breeding Project Phase II is Taiwan’s main agriculture project that forms part of their collaboration with Belize. The four-year project, valued at US$3 million, extends until 2024.

President Tsai will be received by MAFSE Minister Jose Abelardo Mai.

During the welcome ceremony, Robert Pan, Chief of Taiwan Technical Mission, will explain what the project is like to the President in Mandarin. Andrew Mejia, MAFSE’s Coordinator of the Sheep and Goat Project Andrew Mejia will also do an overview of the Sheep and Goat Project in English.

Minister Jose Mai will make a brief presentation as will Food for the Poor (FFTP) project beneficiary Cecilia Santos.

President Tsai will be accompanied by Dr. Lin Chia-lung, Secretary-General, Office of the President; Dr. Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Foreign Minister; Ambassador Hsiang Tien-yi, Secretary General, Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF); Taiwan Ambassador to Belize Ambassador Lily Li-Wen Hsu, and Chief of Taiwan Technical Mission Robert Pan.

Dr Tsai will tour the sheep barn in Central Farm guided by Project Manager Jose Wang. There Taiwan substitute military service volunteers, Jimmy and Ken, will show President Tsai and Minister Mai how to feed the lamb.

Finally, President Tsai will tour the Sheep & Goat Project.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE), under which the Sheep and Goat Project operates, the Steering Committee meets every two months to review the progress within that livestock subsector.

MAFSE, with the aid of the Sheep and Goat Breeding Project Phase II, is not only promoting sheep farming, but also teaching farmers new ways to cook lamb and mutton, and looking for new markets for their products.
