Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams succeeded Allen Whylie in 2019 and since then, Williams has engaged in transforming the Belize Police Department.

Williams implemented his Community policing approach and enforced restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Williams also engaged the Leadership Intervention Unit to combat gang violence in Belize City.

However, the Security Services Commission have since approved 3 Deputy Commissioners of police.

In 2021, Dr. Richard Rosado was appointed, in 2022, Bart Jones and Aaron Guzman were appointed.

During an interview on Tuesday, Williams noted that there are 3 deputies and there is no first deputy, therefore none of the 3 are superior to the other.

While there has been speculation about who is going to succeed Williams, the Commissioner said that is a decision that the Prime Minister has to make.
