International News: Taiwan’s President thanks United States for security assistance

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen arrived in New York for a visit before heading to Central America.

President Tsai is en route to Belize and Guatemala for a “Meeting Democratic Partners, Fostering Shared Prosperity” tour.

Last night, the Taiwanese President addressed the Taiwanese community in New York urging for Taiwanese unity, News 10 reports.

President Tsai also thanked the United States for its security assistance.

“The safer Taiwan is, the safer the world will be,” she stated.

Today, President Tsai is expected to attend closed events in New York.

However, China is focused on a scheduled meeting next week between President Tsai and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

 “China firmly opposes any form of official interaction between the U.S. and Taiwan,” a spokesperson from China’s Foreign Ministry said.
