Second Lieutenant Julia Puerto to make history as 1st female pilot in BDF

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Second lieutenant Julia Puerto of the BDF has followed her dream of becoming a pilot.

She officially began in July, 2022 when she placed 1st place in the pilot screening conducted by the BDF Air Wing.

The Air Wing pilots saw the enthusiasm, professionalism and potential that Puerto portrayed and assisted her in preparation for pilot training.

In January of this year, Puerto began pilot training at the Caribbean Military Aviation School (CMAS) in Jamaica.

Puerto went on her first solo flight on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

Puerto is scheduled to complete her pilot training on May 26, 2024, and will make history as the first female to join the ranks of the elite BDF pilots.
