John Cus found guilty of rape; To be sentenced in April

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The High Court of Belize has found San Pedro resident, 43-year-old John Cus, guilty of raping an American tourist.

The verdict was handed down today by Justice Antoinette Moore, who deferred Cus’s sentencing until April 17, when she will hear mitigation pleas on his behalf.

The victim testified virtually that around 4:30 a.m. on February 9, 2018, she awoke to find Cus on top of her. She also said that he refused to leave the room after she refused his advances and only left when her roommate woke up.

Cus’s only defense when he took the witness stand was that he did not do what he was accused of.
